It may be that, by Greek standards, an outfit with this kind of style seems a bit far-fetched, but the artists involved in it have plenty of experience with the genre. Behind the project is Akis Kosmidis, co-creator of Redeye Caravan. Just like in his previous outfit, here too Akis channels his love for good old country music. A music that's traditional to the American continent.
Stepping into the role in the best possible way!
The The Coalminer’s Grandson isn't just a project where the participants merely perform. Akis has already shown with Redeye that he likes to have background and depth, and to actively step into the role that the music projects. The videos he's uploaded so far to his official channel show the huge attention they give to every single track. From the setting where each clip is shot, right down to their thematic style. Watching each video, you'll see footage shot in fields, stories being told around the fire, and heroes wearing period costumes, getting even further under the skin of the role!
A faithful rendition with great authenticity
The most impressive element in the whole undertaking is the way the performers deliver the tracks. If you also consider how difficult it would be for non-native Americans to render traditional American songs, then the result seems even more impressive. The artists of The Coalminer’s Grandson give us covers that have nothing to envy in the original versions! For now, the project has focused on covering older tracks. However, having found excellent chemistry, it'll be very interesting to see original material from them in the future.
