Υπόγεια Ρεύματα's relationship with poetry remains timeless and profound
From their earliest steps to today, the word has been at the core of their identity, as the band has repeatedly turned to setting poems to music, both on record and in their live shows. With «Οργή Λαού», that journey culminates in one of its most direct and fully realised expressions.
At a time when the voices of ordinary people are so often drowned out by the "noise" of the powerful, Υπόγεια Ρεύματα set to music emblematic poets such as Κώστας Καρυωτάκης, Κώστας Βάρναλης and Κωστής Παλαμάς. The title of the album and of the concert is inspired by Βάρναλης' poetry collection of the same name, and highlights both their fiercely political and social character and a reality of our times.
The album «Οργή Λαού» is out on all digital platforms from Thursday 14 May.
The spark for the album «Οργή Λαού» came from the band's GRis Festival concerts in Rethymno, Thessaloniki and Berlin, where they presented a complete programme of poetry set to music. The material, road-tested on stage and in direct contact with audiences, led to this new record.
On the Τεχνόπολη stage, poetry will become a living experience, where voices will join together to give urgent expression to the collective need for a way out from under the suffocating pressure of our everyday lives.

About the album «Οργή Λαού».
In an era where voices are often drowned out by the "noise", Υπόγεια Ρεύματα return with their new album «Οργή Λαού» – a work – an intervention built entirely on poetry set to music by emblematic voices such as Κώστας Καρυωτάκης, Κώστας Βάρναλης and Κωστής Παλαμάς. The title of the album is inspired by the poetry collection of the same name by Κώστας Βάρναλης, underlining its political and social core from the very start.
On «Οργή Λαού», poetry doesn't function as a reference, but as a cutting edge: sarcastic, furious, deeply political, it speaks directly to the here and now. The lyrics turn the record into a battleground, capturing the tension of an era – the disillusionment, the suffocation, the broken promises, but also the relentless need for a voice. The compositions move between raw explosions and subterranean tensions, creating a sonic environment that leaves no room to keep your distance. Υπόγεια Ρεύματα don't simply "interpret" the poetry – they carry it into the present, charge it up again, lay it bare. And through this process, they bring music back to its core: as an act, as a stance, as a reaction.
The album was recorded at studio Πολυφωνική and produced by the band together with their long-time collaborator, Πέτρος Πετρόπουλος. Also featured on the album are Τάκης Σπυρόπουλος on guitar and Άλεξ Καλοφωλιάς on harmonica on two separate tracks. Mastering was handled by Γιάννης Χριστοδουλάτος (Sweetspot Productions) and the artwork is signed by Πέτρος Βούλγαρης.
