On Saturday, 13 Νοεμβρίου 2021, the big date was set! Sexpyr Sexpyr met Redeye Caravan Redeye Caravan on the stage of Underground Music Studio, in Περιστέρι. Plans for the live show had already started taking shape back in summer. But the planets finally aligned and the result was fantastic! A mix of Hip Hop and Dark Country. It was a journey from the ghetto of Νέα Ερυθραία (!) to the Wild West of Λιβαδειά!
Of course, we got a first taste of it with the release of the video clip for the track 'Ο Δικαστής του Σερίφη'. The song was an excellent collaboration between two music genres that couldn't be further apart.
Sex-Πυρ and fury!
The moment finally arrived, the lights went down, and Sexpyr (known to the world as Βασίλης Παρασκευάς) hit the stage! His character and his impressive stage presence had me hooked right away. The show was a mix of wonderful music and… stand up comedy! Oh, yes! Βασίλης has a brilliant sense of humour that really comes out on stage! Not surprising, since he's also part of Comedy Lab…
The first part of the live show featured newer tracks as well as stories that had us in stitches. Among the highlights of the night were definitely Σάββας (those familiar with Sexpyr's music will know what I mean!), as well as the stories that accompanied the track.
Part of Βασίλης's stage presence, and of course his music, is also Γιάννης Ψύχος. His laid-back vibe (he got through the whole live show with witty comments and chicken nuggets!), along with his beats, provided the perfect backdrop for Βασίλης!
A caravan straight out of the Wild West!
I confess I'd been waiting for the appearance of Redeye Caravansince summer! Ever since I heard their album 'Nostrum Remedium' (which I'll be writing a separate article about with my impressions). Their stage presence was excellent.
The band from Λιβαδειά had it all. Guitars tuned Southern-style, violin, harmonica, bass. But the cherry on top was the vocals. Where do I even begin, where do I end! From Πάνος backing it all up… Άκης, who has something straight out of a Morricone film… Ελένη's angelic voice… Βαλάντης's deep vocals reminiscent of James Earl Jones…
Listening to the music, I was no longer at Undeground! I was in another era. An era full of demons, stories, horses and dust. The smell of sawdust and cheap whiskey still lingers strongly… I feel like I'm in a dusty saloon out in the Wild West. Or under a starry sky in front of a campfire!
Redeye were there to prove to me that country can be played excellently, or even better, than by native Americans…
An ending straight out of our childhood
Shortly before the Redeye Caravanset came to an end, Sexpyr climbed back up onto the Underground stage. SexpyrIt was finally time for Δικαστή του Σερίφη, a track I'd been waiting for ever since I saw the video clip!
The concert closed with a taste of my childhood! Βασίλης dug up some of the tracks we grew up with on the streets of Νέα Ερυθραία. 'Δέκα λεπτά κύρηγμα', 'Μικρή Λουλού' and 'Τα λέμε' were some of the ones that reminded me what it was like growing up!
A live show that had it all
This live show was extremely enjoyable for me. Underground was buzzing with life! I had a great time! I laughed, I heard excellent music and I reminisced about the old days! As for Sexpyr , I have to say he's like a fine old wine. He's maturing musically and getting even better. Redeye Caravan Redeye Caravan on their part can open up new musical horizons for you and take you on a journey to a world that's unknown to many. Personally, I'll be waiting with huge anticipation for the next show from both of them, whether shared or not! Until then, I'll make do with their records!
