Redeye Caravan – 'Snake oil & Lullabies': A new adventure!
Redeye Caravan are off on a new musical adventure! The Dark Country outfit has unveiled the EP titled 'Snake oil & Lullabies' and takes us on another trip to the Wild West. The Dark Country collective from Livadeia shares its new work titled "Snake oil & Lullabies"….
By Dimitris (Bari) Polyzois
It's a four-track EP where each song is represented by a tarot card on the cover artwork and tells a dark story. The EP has been available digitally since 20/7/23 and you can find it on the Bandcamp page of the band as well as on every well-known music platform. Redeye Caravan make a powerful comeback!
Gather round the fire, the show's about to begin…
…The old fortune teller spread the cards across the old, oaken table. "Pick four" she whispered, but her voice sounded deep and seemed to touch me right to the bone. I chose. She turned them over. Under the candlelight her face looked broken and frightening, but it turned otherworldly at the sight of the tarot cards. "The Circus", "The Train", "The Sin", "The Town". A voice that seemed to come out of the darkness broke the silence: "Snake oil & Lullabies"…
The Caravan started its journey in 2019, from the small town of Livadeia. They play Dark Country and have released 1 LP (Nostrum Remedium, 2020) and 1 collaboration single with Sexpyr (The Sheriff's Judge, 2021), while sharing their otherworldly stories at live shows. In 2023 they record and release the EP "Snake oil & Lullabies". On board the Caravan are
Music that keeps you spellbound
Sure, "Snake oil & Lullabies" isn't as filling a meal as Nostrum Remediumwas. After all, it consists of just four tracks. They are, however, more than capable of giving you not just a distinct musical mood, but also an environment and a setting that will transport you. The Caravan continues, true to the theatricality that accompanies it, to present us with 4 tracks, each tied to a Tarot card. It thus creates a thoroughly mystical mood, ideal for the music's dark style.
Editor's Choice: 'Cardinal Sin'
This is the track that, at least to our ears, stood out from the EP. It has a darkness and a heavy mood, accompanied by heavy, intense guitar riffs. It's a track we could easily imagine playing on Sons Of Anarchy! It gives off a strong whiff of the desert and is the closest thing to a western atmosphere we've heard in ages! Enjoy it!
The Lord giveth
the Lord taketh away, anyway
The saints and sinners
the ones in between, never win
The Lord's servant
the Lord's chosen one, will be done
For he has to
for he has to sin and give in
I stand here alone and weary in the house of God
I have played my part for Him I say
Holy water on my fingers to clean up the blood
then I pray
Then I pray for new prey…
"…and the crows fell silent as the Caravan drew near…"
"Snake oil & Lullabies" is an EP that whets our appetite and lets us know that Redeye Caravan remain active and continue to surprise us. Let's hope their musical journey soon gives us another full album. Until then, though, they've managed to give us the best gift… Four musical gems to keep us company on cold desert nights! We're eagerly awaiting what comes next!
