Monkey Mind – 'Breakdown': From Cyprus with love!

The band from Cyprus, following the single 'Immunity', has unveiled their debut album, titled 'Breakdown‘.

The debut album from Monkey Mind is here!

The Monkey Mind were formed in the autumn of 2016 in Nicosia by guitarist Ανδρέα Γεωργίου and singer Χριστόδουλο Παυλίδη. The two musicians had previously coexisted in various bands since 2009. With their last band “Incognito”, a fusion of English and Greek rock, running into difficulties and eventually splitting up, they approached the Berklee graduate bassist and songwriter Christos Stylianidis. Thus they created a new, exclusively English-speaking rock / hard rock / alternative band. Eventually, with the addition of drummer Doros Kyprianou, the Monkey Mind.

The recordings, which had already begun with the members of the previous band “Incognito", continued and 3 songs were completed by the end of 2016. The single "Feel like Movin' On'" was released and together with two more songs formed the self-titled EP "Monkey Mind”.

After about a year of inactivity due to personal issues, the band reunited in the summer of 2018. The only change was that of bassist Chris T, who replaced Christos. The latter departed for personal/professional reasons. The new members got to work and the band's first full length album titled "Breakdown" took shape. The record was released on July 23 via Boersma Records.

About the music

This album consists of 8 songs, which move to the rhythms of hard rock and thrash metal. Alternative touches are not missing either, which create a well-rounded result. The band has musical knowledge, which combines with their talent and passion to create some very beautiful vibes that show throughout the record.

Joy, anger, rebellion, headbanging and a breakdown come at you through these very interesting compositions, which don't feel like a band's first steps. In fact, they sound like they were written by bigger names on the music scene! This is definitely something that counts in their favour and wins you over on this debut record.

Just as the chemistry that emerges from this new line up wins you over. The latest addition to Monkey Mind, blends flawlessly with the rest of the band members, and together they show the listener that what they've heard so far was only the beginning! This band has a high ceiling! They win you over across the whole range of playing techniques on their instruments. The vocals, on the other hand, come to tie the whole thing together flawlessly and raise the bar for next time!

And we want there to be a next time from Monkey Mind! Because the debut album “Breakdown” wasn't enough for us! It came into our hands and made us a fan of the band from the very first moment, and that shows there's something good going on here! I believe that anyone who listens to them will conclude the same, will dig deeper, and will become a devotee of this dark and talented style of theirs that starts from the instruments, continues through the vocals and reaches straight into the mind, making the listener 'melt' musically, exactly as so aptly depicted on the album cover.

In conclusion

The Monkey Mind with the album “Breakdown” really surprised me and I hope they keep it up at the same pace, because they've got a bright future ahead of them. They've already put together a record where you enjoy every single track on it, and they're already good enough to stand shoulder to shoulder with big names on the American music scene! Well done Monkey Mind! Congratulations!
