The Blues Rock, Joe Bonamassa artist has returned with a brand new single from his highly anticipated upcoming album, due out later this year. 'Notches' stands as a testament to the unwavering journey Joe has lived through the evolution of his career.
A bit older, but certainly wiser for the knowledge gained, his new sound carries a raw and vital edge. Combined with a decisive skill that can only be earned through years of persistence and dedication. The first single arrives today as a shot of rock frontman energy, paying tribute to the artist's enduring history. With his eyes on the future, Joe keeps tearing down walls and defying the odds of the music industry.

New paths
Recorded in New York at Germano Studios / The Hit Factory. The song features Steve Mackey on bass, Lachy Doley on piano, Bunna Lawrie on didgeridoo (!), Bobby Summerfield on percussion, Anton Fig on drums and Mahalia Barnes, Juanita Tippins and Prinnie Stevens on backing vocals.

Paired with Charlie Starr of Blackberry Smoke, Notches is a taste of a rawer, harder-hitting sound. There's a slice of southern twang in the monstrous central riff, while Bonamassa's lyrics focus on the obstacles he's faced in his career.
With the lyric "I've got miles under my wheels, notches on my stick», suggests that the Blues Rock veteran is perhaps thinking about the past a bit more these days.
'The music industry is tough, really tough. Especially back in those days when the major labels pulled every string I had.'

The Bonamassa says about the provocative lyrics: 'Twenty years ago, I recorded a covers album that eventually got called Blues Deluxe. It was recorded at Bobby Nathan's studio in Manhattan. It took part of my energy and changed me as an artist', he continued.
Given its origins in the New York sessions, we wonder if this is the first single from that hardcore record Bonamassa mentioned he was planning late last year.
The song follows the announcement that Bonamassa is auctioning off an exclusive "Broken Record" package, which will include the "Holy grail", a 1959 Gibson Les Paul, a 1963 Fender Vibroverb and an NFT of a song he recorded with them.
