By Dimitris (Bari) Polyzois

A cinematic experience showcasing the full scope of the genius of Frank Zappa. The fascinating musical legacy, the social activism, and at the same time the human side of a truly unique personality." That's how its director Alex Winter describes "Zappa". The director will be joining us from L.A. for yet another exclusive Video Q&A, ahead of the film's first screening in Greece. The musical part of the evening rightfully belongs to Irene Ketikidi who will open the night together with her band.
About Irene Ketikidi
An internationally recognized guitarist and composer in the world of instrumental rock, she started out as a session musician and gained wider recognition in 2010 with her track "Rambler," which she also performed live in front of Steve Vai at London's Guitar Nation Festival. In 2013 she released her debut album "Martial Arts & Magic Tricks," which won praise from musicians such as Guthrie Govan, Greg Howe, Nita Strauss, Alex Skolnick and David Kilminster. In November 2018 she performed lead guitar in the show "Οι Μουσικοί της Καμεράτας συναντούν τους Deep Purple" at the Athens Concert Hall. In 2019 she was the opening act at soloist Nick Johnston's live event in Athens, and in June of that same year she appeared as a guest at the explosive Nita Strauss's concert at Chance Theater in New York.

"To me, Zappa is an unstoppable composer."
"A genius personality and a true improviser who fears no note on the guitar. That's exactly what inspires me so much. Solo guitar is my voice, and it's with that voice that I'll be thrilled to honour Frank Zappa at GSFF. On 31/10 we'll be at Gagarin with my band. Can't wait!"
The night will close with the extremely detailed and personal portrait of an astonishing artist, as captured in Alex Winter's film. Based on more than 1000 hours of previously unreleased material from the personal archive of Frank Zappahimself, the first documentary about the pioneer so beloved by Greek audiences arrives at GSFF just a few months after its official premiere in Los Angeles.
