Artist Robert Vargas is painting a huge portrait of the former Van Halen guitarist outside the Guitar Center in Hollywood. The mural will be officially unveiled on January 26th, Eddie's birthday.
"We're really excited to be doing this on that day and really giving it to the world," Vargas explained in an interview. "This will be the premiere of the Eddie Van Halen mural in the United States. Especially here in Hollywood, where they made their name."

Vargas noted that part of the music video for Van Halen's classic hit, Panama, was filmed right in front of that very wall.
This is the latest in a long list of tributes to Eddie, who died in October after a battle with cancer. Billboards, marquees, and makeshift shrines have popped up all across the country since the rocker's death. Fans of his music are mourning the loss of an icon, while also celebrating Eddie's remarkable life.
Meanwhile, the guitarist's son, Wolfgang, released his own moving tribute to Eddie titled Distance. The song, which also served as Wolfgang's debut solo single, was dedicated to his dad and was written before Eddie's death.
"As my father kept fighting various health issues, I imagined what my life would be like without him and how terribly I would miss him," the younger Van Halen explained. "While this song is incredibly personal. I think anyone can relate to the idea of having a deep loss in their life."
Wolfgang later revealed that he played Distance for Eddie before he died. "He heard the idea. I played it for him," he recalled about the emotional moment. "We both cried. It was hard to sing it and play it."
