BaBa ZuLa | 20.11.2026 | ARCH Club

BaBa ZuLa, one of the most distinctive and influential acts in contemporary Turkish psychedelia, come to Athens on Friday 20 November for a show at ARCH Club, produced by TMR Entertainment. Joining them are Los Tre and KoYaMan.

Los Tre are an instrumental trio from Athens who started in 2012 as a jazz-funk group and moved steadily towards a sound drawing on West African, Cuban, Ethiopian, Arabic and Greek traditions, played electric and shot through with 70s psychedelia and improvisation.

KoYaMan are the Greek trio pairing the traditional roots of Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean with contemporary electronics — oud, kanun and percussion set against loops, samples and electronic pads.

Across nearly three decades, BaBa ZuLa have built an entirely personal musical world in which Anatolian tradition meets psychedelia, dub, rock ’n’ roll, electronic music and improvisation. They describe it themselves as “Istanbul psychedelia”.

Since 1996, with Murat Ertel’s distinctive electric saz at the centre, they have explored the roots of Anatolian and Istanbul music, carrying them into an electrified and constantly shifting sound that draws on Turkish tradition, 60s psychedelia, dub and the avant-garde.

One of their shows is rarely just a concert. Their near-ritual performances combine music, improvisation, poetry, theatricality and elaborate costumes, with compositions developing on stage through long improvised passages — no two nights are alike.
