The names of the nominees for the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame have been made public, with those of the three bands standing out from the list. At the same time, the new nominations show just how wide a net the Hall of Fame casts.
It's worth noting that Iron Maiden and Foo Fighters are 2 of the names taking part in the vote for the first time.

Specifically, Iron Maiden
Despite their 40-year career, they'd never before had the chance to be in the running.
Back in the day, the band's frontman Bruce Dickinson had stated on the matter: "I'm very happy that they haven't included us and I would never want that to happen. If they ever try, I'll refuse. They won't get the chance to have… our corpse in there. Rock And Roll isn't made to be placed in a mausoleum in Cleveland. It's a living, breathing organism and if you lock it up in a museum it'll die. It's worse than bad. It's just barbaric."

On the other hand, Steve Harris turned out to be more measured. He said: "I don't really think about it much to be honest. Awards are nice to receive. But it's not the goal we're working towards."
For someone to be eligible for the vote, 25 years must have passed since their first album.
For the record, the only heavy metal bands to have made it into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame are Metallica and Black Sabbath. Judas Priest and Motorhead, though nominated in the past, never managed to make it.
