Gemma: Cover 'Ο Εφιάλτης της Περσεφόνης'

The song is part of the work of Μάνος Χατζηδάκις with lyrics from the poetry of Νίκος Γκάτσος. The song carries a lot of darkness, which of course comes through in the unique style of Gemma. It's a journey from ancient times to the materialism of modern Greece.

Based on the Cretan dialect

The Gemma are a five-member band formed in 2017 in Ρέθυμνο, Crete. Their aesthetic is quite distinctive, as they combine electronic sounds from synths with post-rock elements from guitars, bass and drums, marrying traditional and modern elements, effects and loops in the vocals.

As a result, they create original compositions, as well as covers of traditional songs from the wider Greek region, balancing between traditional melodies and lyrics and contemporary melodic and rhythmic lines.

The band's aim is to carry out an exploration of the music of our homeland, specifically Cretan music. Throughout the whole compositional process, the familiar elements from the tradition of their particular homeland are assimilated into more contemporary music.

Gemma Gemma are made up of Δανίλη Ευαγγελία (vocals, loops), Καπαρός Γιώργος (production, composition, loops, synths, guitars), Μαυρογιαννάκης Νίκος (drums), Πασχίδης Αναστάσης (bass) & Σπινθουράκης Αποστόλης (percussion, lyrics).
