In a new chat with "Another FN Podcast With Izzy Presley", Black Sabbath drummer Vinny Appice made some surprising comments about the Dio-era Sabbath. Specifically, he stated that Dio hated singing Sabbath songs from the Ozzy Osbourne era.
The legendary frontman was replaced by Ozzy Osbourne in 1979. Later, the band released an album titled "Heaven and Hell". Afterwards Bill Ward left the band. Vinny joined the band after Bill's departure.
Dio hated those particular songs
Talking about those times, the drummer was asked if fans gave him a hard time because of his replacing Bill Ward at that point.
"Not really, because you're the drummer – you sit in the back." "Ronnie had to put up with banners like 'Where's Ozzy?' and all that. He had to deal with it.
"And he hated singing those songs – he hated the song 'Iron Man' and 'Sweet Leaf' and the Ozzy songs.
"That's why in the end, after 'Heaven & Hell', we stopped playing the old songs."
Ronnie died of stomach cancer on May 16, 2010 at the age of 67.
The epic vocalist was known around the world as one of the greatest and most important singers in heavy metal history. He was diagnosed with cancer in late 2009. He underwent chemotherapy and made his last public appearance in April 2010 at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards in Los Angeles.
Ronnie's much-anticipated autobiography, titled "Rainbow In The Dark: The Autobiography", will be released on July 27 through Permuted Press.
