Just before their upcoming show, the band talks to Fuzzy Hound!
The Silent Wedding were formed in 2006. Tell us about the founding of the band.
"In 2006, Τζίμης Κατσαρός (guitar) and I (Μάριος Καραναστάσης, vocals) decided to transform the Greek-language band «Πυρ και Μανία» into something new. That's how The Silent Wedding were born. With us are Γιάννης Θερμός (keyboards), Ρένος Λιαλιούτης (drums) and Γιώργος Κριθάρης (bass)."
The band's name is "The Silent Wedding". How did you choose it?
"It doesn't come from a film or a book. Two years later, a Romanian film came out with the same name, but our inspiration came from our different musical influences. We all loved heavy metal, but with different approaches. The name expresses the union of these contrasts – a "silent wedding" of musical worlds."
How would you describe the band's journey so far?
"It's like a roller coaster! Endurance, persistence, love and joy. We released three albums and one EP, we did support with big bands like Saxon, Fates Warning, Within Temptation, Iced Earth, Warrel Dane, Therion, Epica, Deep Purple, and we've played with Dennis Stratton & Maiden United. We've got under our belt five European tours and appearances at two major festivals abroad.”
The most important moment in the band's twenty-year journey?
"I can't pick just one! Our first European tour with Maiden United, the support slot for Saxon in Thessaloniki, our tours with Threshold… Each one had its own value."
Almost a year ago, on the tenth of February, you opened for the mighty Therion — tell us a bit about that experience.
"We opened their shows in Athens and Thessaloniki. It was a unique experience, with a different crowd than usual. In Thessaloniki, there were people singing our lyrics – an incredible feeling!"
What did you gain from the experience?
"We gave our best selves and earned the respect of a new audience. The reviews were harsher, but we proved our worth. We met great musicians who remained humble and approachable – the way everyone should be."
On the first of February, at Piraeus Academy, you'll be making your first appearance of 2025, together with Destiny Calls and Beyond The River — tell us a bit about this event?
"Our last headline show in Athens was in 2022. Now we're coming back with a setlist that spans our whole journey, with songs that haven't been heard in years and some that will be played live for the first time. We're putting together a powerful show for everyone who joins us on 1st of February at Piraeus Academy.”
Is there a chance we'll see a new album within 2025?
"We're already working on new material, trying out new ideas and letting the music guide us. I don't know if we'll manage to release it within 2025, but it will definitely be something that makes waves."
What would your message be to the page's followers?
"Love yourselves, listen to music that inspires you, and support good live shows. And above all, keep smiling even through the hard times! We'll be waiting for you on the 1st of February at Piraeus Academy!”
