Tailor Made Funk – 'Oh They Bite!': With a funk breath

A new album was presented by Μάριος Ράπτης with his musical project, Tailor Made Funk. It's the record titled 'Oh They Bite!', which combines punk, funk and disco elements, creating something quite different.

The music of Tailor Made Funk is very distinctive. It was born out of the Funk style, without being confined to it, though. Μάριος looks to enrich every single track. Sometimes he does it with a beautiful guitar solo or lead guitar part (never intense or overdone). Other times he adds multiple layers of keys, building a complex wall of sound. Other times still he simply uses intensity and rougher elements to give the music a different texture. In the end, he creates a blend that balances between funk, punk and rock, taking bits from each genre and using them just right. 

All of the above happens while the foundation of each track stays as simple as can be. With a repeating motif (different in each track, of course) running throughout its entire length. This ultimately creates the most fitting platform for Μάριος to build whatever melody he has in mind.

Editor's Choice: 'Born in July'

Listening to the whole record, there are some tracks that stand out, at least to our ears! One of the most interesting is 'Born in July'. With a strong disco and funk vibe, the song is packed with many beautiful musical touches. Using a rhythmic guitar line as its base (which strongly echoes the 80s-90s), it builds a very intense atmosphere. The keys of course play a huge role too, joining in with many parallel melodies, as do the vocals, which follow melodic lines matching those of the instruments. 

And because I couldn't stick to just the one track as a recommendation, I'll throw in an honourable mention too. That's none other than the title track of the record, 'Oh they Bite!'. One more thoroughly enjoyable track.

In conclusion

With their second full-length album, Μάριος Ράπτης's Tailor Funk Made give us a record of simple, meaningful and beautiful music. 'Oh They Bite!' is made up of 9 honest and simple tracks, which I believe will give you wonderful moments as you listen to them.
