Sexpyr – "Ο Τραγουδιστής με την Κασέτα": An album from the good old days!

His newest full length album was presented by Sexpyr. The Greek Hip Hop artist finished his record titled 'Ο Τραγουδιστής με την Κασέτα', a record that reminds us a lot of the old, good times. Alongside him, notable appearances, such as Φάνης Αφάνης, DJ Freestone (Facebook, Instagram), Μαύρος Ήλος, Numberless, but also Πιέρρος Πατουχέας (Facebook, Instagram) and Θοδωρής Τυροπώλης who took part in creating the comic that accompanies the record!

A record that brings together plenty of tracks!

Starting, as always, from the tracklist, I notice that there's a strong sense of familiarity running through the record. Given that there are tracks like ‘Ανθρωποφάγοι‘, the ‘Ιγμορίτιδα‘, the ‘Το Πάρτι του Μεσήλικα' and the 'No way', I can tell this is a album-gem that's going to make me listen to the whole story of the Sexpyr bard from start to finish!

In the end, 'Ο Τραγουδιστής με την Κασέτα' is here to offer us not just a musical whole, but also a visual depiction of the story of the record and the artist. The Sexpyr takes yet another step toward its audience, opening a small Kerkoporta into the vastness of its thoughts, so that we get a chance to understand, to an even greater degree, the music and the background behind it! And I'm of course referring to the very beautiful and special effort of Sexpyr himself and Crazy Duck Comics (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter). The cover art was designed by Ιωάννης Ψύχος (ipsychos). The record, then, comes with a 16-page comic featuring a mini story starring the artists themselves.

This particular story is an interesting approach that stirs up a whole lot of varied feelings.

This story will, on one hand, make you relive moments you've surely lived through in the past. Moments that tangle up political leadership, the church… but also classic moments of the Greek mentality! All of this will surely make you laugh, but also make you think about how it all fits together. The choice of 'glue' you use to stick these pieces together is up to you, so get creative!

Nor are there any shortage of nods to elements of the art world. Elements which either create a surface layer of low-quality music, or simply amount to moments of pure madness! Either way, the combination of the tracks and the comic manages to build you a clear framework and a world to escape everyday life in, in the best possible way.

Sexpyr: Traditional... but prophetic too!

How an artist could combine two such different elements, I just can't wrap my head around! Maybe it's got something to do with the water in Νέας Ερυθραίας… Or maybe our beloved hometown (oh yes! We share the same native soil!) is strategically placed in a hole where all the parallel universes connect. The result is that Sexpyr manages, through his songs, to build a backdrop of nostalgia for the old days, while keeping his lyrics in touch with the present and beyond… 'Σώστε τα Δάση' turned out to be a prophetic track, since it was written quite a while before the recent disaster with the fires in Πάρνηθα and the Βασιλικά estates… 

Could he be called Nostradamus? The one thing that's certain is that his music is directly connected to everyday life and to what's really going on out there in reality.

Editor's Choice: 'Το Πάρτι του Μεσήλικα'

With plenty of really strong tracks rounding out the record, picking a personal favourite for Λαγωνικού becomes even harder! Still, we land on this particular one for several different reasons. First off, having followed the journey of Sexpyr since the days of Καβουροδεινόσαυρων, ‘Το Πάρτι του Μεσήλικα' is the natural next step after 'Το Πάρτι με τα Ούζα'! The song's hero, who back then as a teenager dreamed of partying wild, now shows us that no matter your age, the mood stays the same! In the end, we're the same kids, with the same urge to party, and even though there's a certain maturity now (yeah, right!), it doesn't take much for things to get out of hand.

On the other hand, in this track I see myself. I identify with the hero who grows up, but never stops being a kid on the inside. Give it a listen and party to our rhythm! 

In conclusion

‘Ο Τραγουδιστής με την Κασέτα' is a record with 8 tracks carrying deeper meanings. It'll make you laugh, but also make you think about everything it describes. At the same time, the impressive effort put into creating the comic shows the will of Sexpyr and the team to offer the audience a fully-rounded artistic experience. It's worth taking the time to enjoy the musical approach the artist offers you, as well as the effort he makes to wake you up, both musically and socially. Once again, Νέα Ερυθραία shows it's leading the charge, offering up an alternative way to have a good time!!!
