Rukiye: 'Όμορφη Πόλη' set to music by Μίκης Θεοδωράκης

The Rukiye performs Μίκη Θεοδωράκη. The singer, of Turkish origin, sings the track 'Όμορφη Πόλη', with music by Μίκη Θεοδωράκη and lyrics by Γιάννη Θεοδωράκη. The performer lives and works in Germany, and sings in 4 languages: Turkish – German – English and Greek. On the track she collaborates with the poet Γιώργο Χονδραλή, who also arranged it.

With the permission of the great composer

The poet Γιώργος Χoνδραλής, as is well known, has collaborated with some of the most famous composers. Δροσοσταλιά's orchestra, with its big, successful concerts abroad, often paid tribute to Μίκης Θεοδωράκης. The composer was a personal friend of Γιώργος Χονδραλής. The song 'Όμορφη Πόλη' was reworked by the poet, into German and Turkish with Rukiye on vocals, adaptations that Γιώργος Χονδραλής himself discussed and went ahead with after getting the great Μίκης' blessing. 

Μίκης, as everyone knows, was a wonderful human being, on top of being one of the most important composers in the world of recent years. But above all, he wanted to share his art and the great legacy he left us with every person he felt honoured it properly, in every corner of the earth. Many pieces by the Greek composer were reworked by numerous performers, both Greek and foreign, over the course of his long career.

One of these people is the poet Γιώργος Χονδραλής. Germany and Turkey fell in love with 'Όμορφη Πόλη' in their own language, and Rukiye also sang the song in Greek, to honour the original and Μίκης Θεοδωράκης.
