Rebel Priest – ‘Lesson In Love’: With a rock and metal flavour!
Rebel Priest introduce themselves to us! The band from Canada has released yet another EP with just 4 tracks titled ‘Lesson In Love’.
By Dimitris (Bari) Polyzois

The Rebel Priest from Vancouver have been bringing their eclectic rock n' roll to their fans for years now, in a truly unadulterated, non-negotiable way. A bit greasy, a bit cheeky, but 100% devoted, they've released four albums, with the fifth coming this year. "Lesson In Love" is the name of their new EP as well as their first single. This is an unconventional ballad, like a love song sung by a Tommy Gun! According to the band, it's about going through the trials and tribulations of loving something – the ups, the downs, the twists and turns, but without the direct subject being a person. The album bears the signature of Batcave Records (Facebook, Instagram).
"It's about what you love or love to do and how it's a journey that can always find its way back home."
"There's always that one thing in your life that keeps you on your toes, a person, a hobby, a theology. Whatever your vice is, it always has a price. You have to go through blood, sweat and tears to get what you need from it and it's not always easy. This is your training, your lesson in love."
A first taste with plenty of positives!
The Rebel Priest make listeners forget everything else, take a break from the daily grind and get up and rock out! Whether you're working out, heading out, or down and out, put it on and crank it up (the album…)! It's a chance to let loose! Their music is fluid, they find a riff and then follow it wherever it wants to go. They say the whole point is to find the groove and ride the wave.
The trio simply wants to bring rock n roll back to street level, back when it was the outlaw music for the wronged, so expect a greasy, sweaty, down and dirty rock show. Recommended for fans of Motörhead, ZZ Top and Rose Tattoo.
About the band
The Rebel Priest is a genuine rock 'n' roll band made up of three seasoned musicians who have been paying their dues on the western Canadian rock 'n' roll scene for years now. The singer/bassist Jayme Black (Lust Boys, The Toxiks), the guitarist/singer Benny Kemp (Lust Boys, Road Rash) and the drummer/singer Nate Pole (Kill Matilda, The Toxiks) bring nothing but pure, high-energy Trash N' Roll, dripping with grease!
The band had the joy of touring in Japan and performing alongside bands like Udo (Accept), Lordi, Diamond Head, Crystal Pistol, Flotsam and Jetsam. Since their formation in 2014, the band has released three studio albums “R'ley Heavy” (2019), Enabler (2017 ), Self-Titled (2015) along with a live album “Dead Alive @ SBC (2017)”.

Editor's Choice: 'Bonfire'
With this particular track showcasing all those elements that make Rebel Priest stand out, it's definitely one of the highlights of this short EP. Fast guitars, killer riffs and gritty vocals. It's a very short track that definitely gives us a taste of the band's music.
Track Listing:
1. Lesson In Love (4:05)
2. Dïvebomber (5:01)
3. Coatcheck Girl (3:14)
4. Bonfire (1:47)
EP Length: 14:08
In conclusion
The Rebel Priest are heading out on tour with Deadwolff from Toronto this summer and audiences are in for a rock n roll treat. Guitarist/vocalist Benny Kemp is the embodiment of a denim whirlwind- this guy will break (and has broken) his legs to get the party going onstage! Drummer/vocalist Nate Pole is a groovin’ attitude-packed engine behind the drums who will sometimes make a wood chipper look like a pencil sharpener on those skins. As for singer/bassist Jayme Black, is a fighter and likes his bass really gritty.
The band gives us an excellent sample of their capabilities. 'Lesson In Love' has plenty of rock and metal elements and will get stuck in your head! We can't wait for the full album!
