If it hasn't shot through the roof from the arrival of rumours about a new single from Iron Maiden, you should call your doctor immediately. Anyway, ‘The Writing On The Wall’, has arrived!
The much-anticipated track is a monster of Eddie-sized proportions, which should bring a much-needed and unhindered celebration in these tough times. So far, the track has either fanatical supporters or fanatical critics. In my opinion, I'd say it could rank as one of their greatest moments in a glittering career spanning more than four decades.
Any publicity, good publicity
Being one of the biggest bands in the world comes with a certain level of expectation regarding the quality of fresh material. Steve Harris on the other hand has never been afraid, and once again is trying to push himself and the band. This is how they manage to create something worthy of their legacy.
The thing is, you don't need to be one of the millions of hardcore fans to appreciate their integrity and work ethic. Nor do you need to have their name tattooed on your body to understand how beautiful this new single is. Basically, you just need to like the music.

‘The Writing On The Wall’ opens with a wonderfully delicate piece of classical Spanish acoustic guitar before the main riff kicks in. And speaking of that riff, it's the one carrying all the grandeur of classic Southern Hard Rock. The track builds as layers of guitars repeat the motif and the drums and Mr. Harris's distinctive bass enter the fray. And all this before one of Bruce Dickinson's most heroic and heraldic vocal performances arrives. All of this takes us on a journey the way only Iron Maiden know how.
Awesome animated video clip
The track was unveiled with a thrilling animated video that sees Eddie transform from a robot into a Samurai with an awesome sword. Finally, it ends with the temptation of Adam and Eve as figures who have just been saved, handing them an apple. The combination is excellent and elevates the track, introducing plenty of innuendo.

Musically, the track features one of the best guitar solos to ever appear in their discography. Massive, tasteful and powerful. It's a mural in itself, one that alone would immediately push the track into the upper echelons of their material.
