"Are you ready to learn with "Audio Augmented Reality?"
This is how Gibson announced the release of its new application, compatible with smartphones. The application is aimed at every guitarist, from beginners to specialists. It offers a range of features, including a new approach to learning through augmented reality. It also comes with a tuner, a play-along tabs section, and plenty more besides.
Audio Augmented Reality
The technology at the core of the application was developed in collaboration with Swedish tech company Zoundio. Audio Augmented Reality allows the application to respond to your playing as you learn. So instead of a fixed video, the virtual lesson becomes far more interactive. No equipment is required beyond a smartphone, an acoustic or electric guitar, and a pair of headphones.
The Gibson application covers electric and acoustic lessons, across many genres and styles. The lessons themselves consist of playing along with tabs. The experience is enhanced by real-time feedback fed through your headphones. A broader learning structure has been set up, so that beginners, intermediates and specialist players can all pick their own path through the learning process.
Play-along tabs

The tabs feature a wide range of artists. Among them Eric Clapton, BB King, Tom Petty, Dolly Parton, Santana, Aerosmith, Billie Eilish, The Beatles, Foo Fighters, Thin Lizzy. All are accessible through the application, with each song able to be adjusted to your own skill level.
Virtual guitar tech
Users can get a free tip from a Gibson pro guitar teacher. The video call will cover a variety of basic guitar tuning and maintenance tasks.
Other features
The application also comes with a tuner, with alternative tunings and chromatic tunings available. It also has a direct link to Gibson TV, and an online store for Gibson, Epiphone and Kramer instruments, as well as official Gibson Brands clothing, tools and accessories.
JC Curleigh, Gibson's CEO, said of the launch: "Our focus in recent years has all been about our obsession with guitars, our connection with artists, and the revival of the iconic Gibson, Epiphone and Kramer brands."
"Now it's time to bring guitar playing to life for the current and next generation of guitarists in a modern, comprehensive and intuitive way."
"There's never been a better time to learn how to play guitar or improve your skills. With all these amazing tools now available, you finally have the means to do it!" added Cesar Gueikian, Gibson CMO.
"So we set out to build the Gibson application experience around real knowledge, innovation and simple intuitiveness, all delivered through an app, the new Gibson app. The early feedback has been inspiring, and we're excited to take this next step towards even more guitar solutions from Gibson."
