By Dimitris (Bari) Polyzois

Fragment Soul represents one of the most distinctive genres of music Fragment Soul. The band from Corfu presented their first full-length album, titled ‘Axiom of Choice’. The music of the album is a journey where, through romanticism, torment and fear, it leads to an unexpected calm, one that offers the main characters both despair and liberation.
Progressive metal from a sorrowful world
We could say that's the style of the album and, by extension, of the band as well. The album also features some notable collaborations. Specifically, taking part are Heike Langhans (Draconian) and Egan O’Rourke (Daylight Dies).

‘Axiom of Choice’ stirs up quite a few emotions. The tracks are characterized by a sweet melancholy with a glimmer of hope. All of this, within a reality of terror. On the album (which you can find either through the band's Bandcamp, or through the corresponding one from Sleaszy Rider Store), you'll find the following tracks:
00:00 A Soul inhabiting two Bodies
13:30 A Choice between two Evils feat. Egan O’Rourke
25:18 Every Heart Sings a Song
36:36 Oedipus Complex
On the music
‘Axiom of Choice’ is a dark album. Even though some melodies leave a note of hope, most of the tracks carry a distinctive character. Their foundation is atmospheric, while the vocal parts also move between Metal and Psychedelic Rock. The overall tempo of the tracks is slow, a fact that heightens their intensity.
On the themes
Here we could say that the stories being told are equally distinctive and dark. Souls wandering from body to body, desires hidden deep in hearts, Oedipus complexes and choices made on the basis of the lesser evil.
The characters in the tracks get caught up in adventures that could easily belong to the darkest Scandinavian fairy tales. All of this is reinforced by the fact that, beyond the lyrics, there's also a book describing these very stories. Perhaps for the first time, the listener has the chance to travel through the music of Fragment Soul using all of their senses.

A few words about the band
The Fragment Soul is a progressive-metal band that was formed in 2016 in Greece. It is the final form of a project that was put together by Σπύρο Γεωργίου and Δημήτρη Λούβρο.
The band consists of Νίκο Αργυρίου (vocalist), Σπύρο Γεωργίου (bass), Δημήτρη Λούβρο (guitars), Βαγγέλη Κακαρούγκα (keyboards / piano) and Κώστα Μυλωνά (drums / percussion). A special member is Heike Langhans, from the very well-known doom death metal band Draconian, as vocalist. The recordings of bass, guitars, lead vocals, hammonds took place at Tube Studio (Corfu, Greece).
Fragment Soul got in touch with Linus Corneliusson from the famous Fascination Studios, who would take on the mixing, and also with Tony Lindgren to do the mastering of the album that would end up being called 'Axiom of Choice’.
The band on new paths
2016 found Σπύρος with a new concept in mind that would later become their first album. An idea started to take shape that could serve as the basis for the album's music, and after a meeting with Δημήτρης they decided that this was the way to go.
Later Σπύρος started collaborating with Βαγγέλη Κακαρούγκα (Sedate Illusion, Keyboardist / Vocalist), who would play an important role in completing the album.
As the album's foundation started taking shape, in 2017, Σπύρος met Νίκο Αργυρίου, who would later become the band's main vocalist. So, to complete the album, Σπύρος wanted to find two guests who would make this idea whole.
Without hesitation he got in touch with Egan O'Rourke (Daylight Dies, Bassist / Vocalist) and Heike Langhans (Draconian vocalist), both of whom were immediately interested in the collaboration. Heike was especially active on her end, so it was decided that she would put her own ideas into the work as she wanted them. Since then she's become a special member for Fragment Soul. In the final stages of the project, Κώστας Μυλωνάς (Sunburst / New Day Slave) was added to the lineup, to record the drums.

Editor's Choice: 'A Choice Between Two Evils'. A distinctive, atmospheric track
One of the standout tracks on the album is 'A Choice Between Two Evils'. It's a track with quite a dark soundscape, that definitely seems built from the kind of sounds that would make up a nightmare.
For the track's video clip, the band collaborated with Natalia Drepina. Her talent and the dark, atmospheric style she creates in her videos were perfect for the band's needs.
Visual material beyond the music
Along with the album, Fragment Soul also presented the book 'Choice Sequence'. The book is a collection of stories that includes the lyrical concept of the album's tracks.
The book is available for pre-order in Greek and English editions, exclusively from the band's Bandcamp.
