By Dimitris (Bari) Polyzois

We're talking about Fortress Under Siege, who present us with their new work!
A powerful comeback!
The Fortress Under Siege were formed in Athens in 1994, being one of the first bands to play progressive power metal in Greece. Right from their first self-titled EP released in 1996, they turned heads! Then, remaining inactive for more than a decade, they came back in 2011, releasing two albums since then. These are “The Mortal Flesh of Love” (2011) and “Phoenix Rising” (2014). Then they came back six years later with the new “Atlantis”, which hit the market after changes in the band's line up, but also with a new record label home, Rock Of Angels (Facebook, Instagram)!
With these steps of theirs, the band showed that they love what they put out through the name Fortress Under Siege. And that makes sense, because it's a name tied to progressive power metal fans, being one of those bands that didn't go unnoticed and still doesn't when someone chooses to listen to this music scene!
So, making a fresh start, they gave the people the album "Atlantis," which comes to showcase them and remind us why they kick up such a racket.
The short version is, because they're perfectionists and because they deliver excellent work on every musical level an album can offer. The longer version is, because Fortress Under Siege have plenty of arrows in their quiver. Their goal is to make you get hit by their music, to make you feel their melodic musical journey, to make you applaud the arrangement and the vocals. And finally, to make you enjoy the lyrics and stick with them through most of the record's tracks. Basically, they've got arrows that come flying the moment you hit play and keep hitting you throughout the whole album!
Tracks with real substance!
In "Atlantis" you'll come across songs that stand out for their guitars, two of them, handling both the rhythm and the lead parts. All of this through riffs, solos, sweeps, and other well-crafted guitar techniques that step forward and fit perfectly both the genre and the needs of the compositions. You'll come across arrangements where both Alexis's bass and Dimitris's drums have learned to lock together flawlessly. All these elements provide the depth and dynamism befitting a record that follows musical paths like these.
You'll also come across a voice that's going to lift you out of your seat. One that's going to sweep you away with the clarity and the distinctive tone coming out of that throat, which seems to be the ideal fit for this genre of music that Fortress Under Siegehave chosen! And as you yourselves can tell listening to the new record, they seem to leave nothing to chance! Everything was crafted with wisdom, as befits the perfectionists they seem to be!
Besides, when something drops from Fortress Under Siege, we know what to expect...
And we know they're masters at connecting traditional lyrical heavy metal with technical, melodic power metal, and throwing in the progressive element without losing a trace of the magic. And all of this, of course, under the veil of a lyrical talent that spits fire on every single track that reaches your ears, proving once again that as a band they've got the whole package! And they've especially got it on this record…
Because Fortress Under Siege on the new album "Atlantis" are fresher than ever! Listening to the album, you'll find, through both old and new recipes, a freshness in the compositions. Elements that reveal their passion and their appetite for their band. I suggest you pick up this release, because it'll whet your appetite for the band and you'll want to listen to them more and more! They're no fluke, and they're back once again!
Well done, guys! You're back for real!
