On a night of great anticipation, the Fuzzy Hound let itself be carried away by the melodies of the new album by Disillusive Play. The album is titled 'Songs For The Non-Existent' and is expected to be released by WormHoleDeath Records (Facebook, Twitter) on 16.06.23.
Getting to know the band
This isn't the first time we've come into contact with the band's music. Having watched Disillusive Play live on several occasions, and having also listened to their previous record, all we were waiting for was to discover the new elements they wanted to share with us through this second album. And believe us, those elements are plenty, and very fresh! The band shows greater confidence in the style it plays, and suddenly, their sound becomes multi-faceted. Built on a mix of rhythmic playing packed with gripping riffs, they've crafted a set of 10 tracks that leave their mark on your mind from the very first listen.
The tracks on 'Songs For The Non-Existent' form a roller coaster of emotions.
Big shifts that keep you unable to guess where the track will head in the next second. And we're not just talking about the rhythmic side, but mainly about the style itself. Songs that lean heavily on atmosphere and the excellent voice of Antigone, who, as time goes by, brings more and more grit into her voice. This particular trait, in fact, is so distinctive that it makes the tracks of Disillusive Play stand out. That, combined with the ability to switch from clean vocals to more intense ones very abruptly, gives the band's music a very distinctive style.
Editor's Choice: 'The Dreamer'
'Songs For The Non-Existent' is a record full of excellent tracks. It has every emotion you could possibly ask for from a metal record. One of the tracks that left us with the best impressions, though, was 'The Dreamer'. With an intro that's clean and otherworldly at the same time, the track brings to mind something out of Iron Maiden's old compositions! That same aura carries on through the constant shifts and fluctuations that follow. The song leans heavily on the guitar, with the vocals coming in at "strategic" points, giving it real intensity. The keyboards also play a fantastic role, delivering incredible melodies in the track's background. Listen to it, and we're sure you'll love it!
When you struggle to pick your favourite track...
When a record offers so many quality choices, listening to it puts you in the tough spot of picking a standout track. That's exactly what happened to us… What to single out first? The epic, knightly-natured 'Parallel Lives'? The one we already know (the album's first single), 'Queen Of The Night'? The dark 'Demon's Glove'? Whichever way you take it, the record is a little gem of metal. With collaborations from musicians like Ηλιανά Τσακιράκη (Enemy Of Reality) and Μάριος Καραναστάσης (The Silent Wedding), plus the excellent musical taste of Disillusive Play, the record has everything it takes to make you fall in love with it!
