Social Waste

"... the voice on the speaker, and the band on the stage"

The Social Waste are back on the summer stages. After two years away, they're loading up gaidas, laoutos, baglamas, ancient and Pontic lyres and setting off on a big summer tour.

Drums, Pontic lyre, gaida, laouto, bass and three microphones rapping nonstop, tearing up the stage — it's not exactly a common sight either on the domestic or the European music scene, especially when the lyrics and the music behind them carry that distinctive Mediterranean yet global identity that defines Social Waste and their Mediterranean hip hop. That, after all, is exactly where this band's uniqueness lies.

Rationalistas

The Rationalistas is a musical outfit from the western suburbs of Attica and has represented the socio-political side of homegrown hip-hop since 2004. They were initially introduced to audiences as "Ορθολογιστές" and now consist of TNT, SXO, Bayman and DJ Gzas. Former members included Ζωγράφος with Loop. As a group they have several singles and four full-length albums under their belt: (2007) Απ’ το Δρόμο, (2010) Μια Νύχτα μετά την Τελευταία Μέρα, (2016) Vanguard, (2021) Πίσω Τα Πάντα, while three solo albums have been released by ΤΝΤ.

The Rationalistas count over 150 live shows all across Greece, creating, throughout all these years of their musical journey, unique concert moments. Through their music, they aspire to express the world around them, their “kindred spirits.” To give a voice to those with whom they share the same everyday life and carry the same struggles.

MC Yinka

The MC Yinka was born and raised in Athens. His first steps on the Athenian scene came in 1998, doing MCing at drum n' bass parties with DJ Texture, with whom he would later go on to form the group Urban Links. He is a founding member of the hip hop band Αδιάσπαστη Ουσία, as well as of the group Παράγοντες together with Παράξενος, who later joined the collective Αντίξοοι Παραγωγοί along with FFC and Ανάφλεξη.

He has been a member as MC and vocalist of Palyrria, Street Buzz, Boogie Base, Dr. Votkanini and Imam Baildi, as well as of Direct Connection, where he played electric bass. He is the creator of the music projects Urbanix and Fuzics, as well as a founding member and bassist of HidroLiq and Fallstreak Hole.

He has taken part as MC in various parties alongside acclaimed DJs of the Athenian scene and has performed at well-known festivals in Greece and abroad, such as Synch, Rockwave, Roskilde, Lowlands, Sziget, Montreal Jazz Festival, while he has shared the stage with artists such as Method Man, Skatalites, Orishas, Delinquent Habits, Nneka and Thievery Corporation.

Joining him on the decks will be Cinuk Muerto.

Ραμμένος Άσσος

Also joining us at Anodos Club is Ραμμένος Άσσος, who was born in 1996. He's an MC and a member of Bashment Records. It all kicked off in 2015, when, after a few singles, he decided to drop his first full-length work titled "Μεθυσμένη Πόλη". A year later, he came back with his first LP titled "Mauve" while a few days after that, he released the track "Σε Πόλεμο", which was destined to travel much further than he'd initially thought.

One of the most notable moments in his musical journey is without a doubt supporting Havoc of the legendary Mobb Deep alongside Dj Micro back in December 2019. Today, he has 5 records and 52 more tracks under his belt, personal singles and features, hitting the hundred-track mark in five years.

Joining him on the decks will be Dj Micro and Sumo.

Ταφ Λάθος

Also appearing at Anodos Club will be Ταφ Λάθος. Known off the mic as Παναγιώτης Κυριακού he's one of the most groundbreaking figures and leading voices of the Greek hip hop scene. Founder of Bashment Records and member of Ψυχοδραμα 07, he started out as an MC and beatmaker back in 2001, and since then has released 5 albums, dozens of singles & collaborations, and a medium-length film, fully visualizing the album "DECA".

He's played all the major festivals in the country, and has brought his music to the Ηρώδειο, the Αγγλικανική Εκκλησία του Αγίου Παύλου, the Τεχνόπολη of the Δήμος Αθηναίων, the Κέντρο Πολιτισμού Ίδρυμα Σταύρος Νιάρχος, and the main stage of Gazarte, among many others.

He's shared the stage with top international artists like Damian Marley and Cypress Hill, has performed at festivals in France and Belgium, and has done recording sessions in Japan.

A constantly evolving artist, who with hip hop as his starting point and point of reference, through his musical range, the power of his lyrics and the orchestration of his ideas with his band, has managed to transmit hip hop culture to disparate audiences and carve out an upward, multidimensional path in the independent domestic music scene.

Panx Romana

The Panx Romana come from a generation that grew up in the era when the dictatorship in Greece had seized power by force. From that dark period sprang their teenage dream of forming a band that would have a powerful voice and a stance in life grounded in action.

Out of the punk explosion and through a fiery journey, after passing through various lineups, in 1982 they formed one of the most historic bands, Panx Romana, who have already clocked up 40 years of life with their original lineup, still active in their live shows and in the studio. They haven't broken, they still believe, they've got something to tell us, to shout at us.. "sound the alarmmm"…

In an era that's collapsing, Panx Romana with their blistering music, their sharp and substantial lyrics — some of which got censored and banned — and their attitude, unite whole generations through songs about equality, freedom, humanity. Ideas and concepts fought for with passion.

It's the power of conscious rock'n'roll that "still lives the dream even if it looks like utopia". It's this power that unites voices, on the frequency of Panx Romana with timeless old songs as well as new ones from a band that our era needs now more than ever…

Fundracar

The Fundracar it's not "just another band". It's the only Greece-based band whose material can't be pigeonholed into one genre, nor two, nor even four. And yet, instead of leading to a loss of musical identity, that's exactly the element that makes up the uniqueness of Fundracar. That "something" that every band is chasing, so they can stand out from the rest.

Because Fundracar they play reggae, but they also play punk. They play rock, but they also play funk. They play with electric guitars and bass, but they also play with electronic synths and human beatbox. And all of this, built on the rhythm of the drums, dressed up in lyrics that are unexpected and subversive, creates a musical blend that trips you out, while at the same time making you think, that entertains you while at the same time wringing you out emotionally.

With the attending physician being Μάριος (known to the world as Νταβέλης) and the collective of asylum inmates who accompany him to studios and stages across the whole country, Fundracar now count 13 years since their first single and 10 years since their first album, have performed live at some of the biggest music festivals in the country, in various actions and self-organized lives, while also having put on their own concerts.
