Album Review: Hellpass – "Gates of War"
Hellpass make a powerful start with their first full-length album, titled "Gates of War". The record has a very polished sound. While "Gates of War" may be the debut album of Hellpass, their first release comes with an unexpectedly polished sound….
By Dimitris (Bari) Polyzois

The band's influences are evident and prevail, combining the originality and creativity of Hellpass who act as the driving force of the album. "Gates of War" showcases all the elements that make a debut album worthwhile, and Hellpass truly deserve credit for this musical effort.
Heavy Metal sound!
With "Alter Nation", the band delivers a heavy metal sound influenced by the American school of heavy metal and bands like Cirith Ungol. With epic doom foundations that not only enrich but also define a significant part of their sound. The presence of doom elements can also be found in the songs "Fallen Hero" and "Burning Flags". Combined with the heavy metal sound of Hellpass, this lends an epic atmosphere, as well as a heavier tone to their songs. All this without taking away from the heart of the album, which is traditional heavy metal.
Right after "Alter Nation" comes "Gates of War", which showcases a more clear-cut heavy metal side. Hellpass display a heavy metal sound with faster and sharper riffs, edging slightly towards a thrash metal sound.

What sets them apart, though, is the ability of Hellpass to adopt the classic heavy metal sound and turn it into something that, despite its vintage aesthetic, sounds fresh, exciting and full of intensity.
Hellpass, then, come to reinforce the view that the Greek heavy metal scene not only puts out strong and worthwhile records. At the same time, it's a scene with its own character and style that undoubtedly deserves our support. Hellpass add their name to this list of successes with their debut, "Gates of War".
