Gia G – 'Cosmic Wave': A new instrumental guitar hero!

New EP from American guitar hero Gia G who christens her personal outfit with her own name and releases 'Cosmic Wave' which is anything but reminiscent of the run-of-the-mill musical steps of this world. The record bears the signature of  Sliptrick Records (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter).

Gia G has placed the three tracks on the EP in a strategic way!

The Gia G from Boston, with her wonderful yet quirky playing (especially in her use of the tremolo bar and some odd harmonics, as well as idiosyncratic melodies), is joined in this group by bassist Mark George and drummer Paul Angle.

The opening track ‘Cosmic Wave‘ wonderfully showcases her fiery guitar and impressive playing, without being just another tiresome track where she shows off sterile technique. The composition stands tall on its own and the lead playing adds and enriches something really interesting.

The lady in question's most recent music video, titled "Reminiscing" is the mellowest track of the three. Essentially it's a beautiful ballad influenced by more classic sounds, including some blues elements. It's so enchanting that the only bad impression it leaves is that it doesn't last long enough.

‘Intrical Fusion‘ picks up the pace again and proves once more that the absence of vocals isn't a bad thing. Quite the opposite, actually — it gives plenty of room to the two very good musicians backing her up to put on a clinic in performance and compositional prowess. The song has a jazz feel not far in playing style from Al Di Meola, though Gia isn't copying any guitarist. She's got a truly distinct style of her own.

The three tracks by  Gia G on the EP "Cosmic Wave" show that her presence on the record scene is a guarantee of quality work. Her choice to follow this path is well justified, and it whets our appetite for a full-length guitar album in the near future!
